MOVIEHYPE: Today's Top 3

Beowulf (Official Site)
Cinematic sword and sorcery gets a major upgrade. The Robert Zemeckis machine brought us "The Polar Express", which was pretty amazing, but this looks to be in all ways bigger. A wonderful cast (Ray Winstone, Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins) has been completely digitized, making possible such eye-popping special effects as a nude Jolie as a pillar of flame. Astonishing! And the astonishment will be multiplied when you see this in IMAX 3D. For those who haven't had the pleasure, let me tell you -- this ain't your daddy's 3D! I've seen the trailers, I've read about the production, and I know all I need to know. Big Entertainment. Guaranteed.

Watchmen (Official Site)
While Beowulf is about to hit theaters, Zack Snyder has just begun casting and storyboarding his adaptation of the greatest comic book ever, Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. Most recently, Snyder has helmed a thrilling "Dawn Of The Dead" remake and the mighty "300". Both big entertainment, but the source material here is a step beyond. Moore, whose "V For Vendetta" recently made it to the big screen, created a masterpiece in Watchmen. Brilliant comic book meets ambitious director who "gets it" -- I Can't Wait. But I'll have to. Probably until Christmas 08.

Speed Racer (Official Site)

Here he comes... anyone who remembers Trinity on a motorcycle in Matrix Reloaded should understand how amazing it will be when the Wachowski brothers finish remaking one of the great early animes. I've heard complaints about Reloaded and Revolutions, but no one can deny that they filled the screen with images like nothing we had ever seen before, and that is what I anticipate for this one. Go Speed Racer Go!
