CARHYPE: VW and mileage for days!

Volkswagen's L1 Concept was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

"In many ways this 840lb, tandem-seat machine is the most important car at the show and just as much a supercar as the Lamborghini Reventón or Bugatti Sang Bleu.

It teaches people that 'super’ powers don’t have to equate with a gargantuan size, weight and fuel consumption. Super is as super does and the L1 has super in spades." (MORE)

If I could, I would buy a VW Polo Blue Motion:

"The most efficient model of all, the Polo BlueMotion, gets an all-new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder common rail diesel engine developing 74bhp, combining longer gearing through the five-speed gearbox, a stop-start system and regenerative braking.

The new Golf BlueMotion is powered by a 1.6-litre TDI common rail diesel engine producing 104bhp, and achieves a Combined fuel economy of 74.3mpg, while the Passat BlueMotion switches from a 2.0-litre TDI unit to the 1.6 TDI engine, allowing it to return 64.2mpg on the Combined cycle, up from the 57.6mpg achieved by the outgoing car. At the same time, emissions fall from 128g/km to 114g/km of CO2." (MORE)

CARHYPE: The Handicapped Ferrari

Seen on the campus of Stanford University on 2008-05-03 was the following (click on the picture for a larger version):

Now, I don't know about you, but when I think of what it takes to drive a Ferrari (anyone know what model this one is?), being handicapped isn't something that springs to mind. Handicapable, maybe, but odds are that the owner of this ride has a doctor for a friend - probably one who now has a fresh case of scotch!

I'll let you draw your own conclusions, but my opinion of people who abuse handicap tags is pretty low.

In fact, seeing this reminded me of the GooglePlane being based at Moffett Field!

COMEDYHYPE: Train Horns on a Truck

"Terror on the streets"... That's what the people at HornBlasters use to promote their product - train locomotive air horns, but installed on your own truck. It can't be legal, but watching the reactions of people on the streets sure is hilarious!

HornBlasters.com - Train Horns For Your Ride!©

Below are a couple of videos of the action. You may think you wouldn't react to this if it happened to you, but normally if you're American and you hear this sound coming at you, you're about to get hit by a train - so you'd probably dirty your drawers too.

These guys posted several more videos, but most of the rest have crappy music and promo text in them.

CARHYPE: 2008 Aston Martin DBS

If anyone was wondering what to get me for Christmas... :

Aston Martin is going to reveal the awesome DBS coupe. It is officially being unveiled at the Pebble Beach d'Elegance this week and will go on sale in the first quarter of next year. Anyone that saw the latest Bond flick, Casino Royale will recognize this sweet car.

The production DBS will have a 510 horsepower version of the DB9's 6-liter V-12. (DB9 only has 450hp) A six-speed manual is standard (no auto for the wussies) and helps the car achieve 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds. The DBS has a top speed of 191 mph.

In addition to the great power under the hood, the DBS is the first Aston Martin fitted with carbon ceramic brakes to help keep the car under control. An Adaptive Damping System with five different settings to adjust the car's ride and handling characteristics is also a new feature.

Oh, and don't forget:

Like something straight out of a James Bond flick, Aston Martin is offering a limited edition Jaeger LeCoultre wristwatch for its new DBS that can be used to unlock the car and fire it up. Available only to buyers of the 510hp flagship, the new watch carries a price tag of €25,000. Remember, that’s on top of the €240,000 already put down for the car.

For that kind of money, customers get one of the most complex timepieces in the world. There’s over 200 parts used for just the casing and an additional 200 parts used for the watch movement itself, reports Automotive News. Engineers also managed to shrink the DBS transponder electronics so that it fits inside the watch.
